About Valyrian.net
Valyrian.net is a fan-maintained resource for learners and curious readers who want practical tools for High Valyrian—the constructed language behind ritual, nobility, and lore in George R. R. Martin’s world, as realized on screen for HBO’s Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon.
What is High Valyrian?
High Valyrian is a fully developed conlang (constructed language) designed by linguist David J. Peterson. It is not a cipher of English: it has its own phonology, morphology, and syntax, and functions in-universe much like a classical prestige language—often described as a Latin-like register of scholarship, ceremony, and power.
The language is rich enough for serious study. Grammar includes multiple noun classes (often described as four genders), extensive agreement, and a case system—commonly summarized as eight noun cases—plus a lexicon of over 2,000 words and growing documentation from Peterson and the fan community.
